| 2006 - Assembly Elections
| Mettupalayam's 2006 Assembly elections witnessed a record voter turnout of 74.23% a 10 % increase compared to the last 2001 elections and the highest since the 1991 elections. This election was very interesting with a very close result of only 142 votes that gave the AIADMK victory. The AIADMK candidate Mr.O.K.Chinnaraj hailing from Oosur near Tholampalayam village in the Karamadai area contested this assembly election for the first time against the Mr.B.Arun Kumar (MLA - 1996, Candidate - 1991, 2001, 2006) with the campaigning prowess.

| 2001 - Assembly Elections
| 2001 Assembly elections gave a change of leadership at the state and consitutency level at Mettupalayam. The AIADMK won the assembly and Mettupalayam elections comfortably. Mr.A.K.Selvaraj from Athimathaiyanoor near Karamadai was elected comfortably with a 28.81% margin. He was also honoured with the Ministerial berth of the Department of Housing and Urban Development on taking office as MLA. He served as a Minister for a brief period until Sep 2001. Invalid votes in this election was a marginal 7 votes as opposed to more than 7800 in the previous election.

| Mettupalayam Assembly Consitituency has recently been more popular with the ADMK. ADMK has won 6 times (highest) among 13 elections held so far. The margins of victory also indicate this trend as per the chart below. The last election has been a close one with Mr.B.Arun Kumar of DMK losing to Mr.O.K.Chinnaraj from ADMK in a margin of 142 votes. This has happened in a time when DMK formed the government at the state level. It is an interesting position for Mettupalayam as the winning margin has eroded for ADMK to just 0.09%. The next election in May 2011 poses a very puzzling proposition with the ADMK wanting to strengthen its position and also the DMK wanting to increase its hold in this region with the MP (Mr.A.Raja) also originating from the DMK.

| 1991 - Assembly Elections
| In 1991, the ADMK-led front won the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections; and its leader, J. Jayalalithaa, was sworn in as Chief Minister. L.Sulochana from Mettupalayam won the election with a clear majority. This election marked her first term in office. The polls gave the ADMK a clear majority both in this seat and at the assembly level. The 35% margin victory was the highest in this seat ever since. ADMK coming together as one party was a great support for Jayalalithaa (Janaki ADMK + Jayalalitha ADMK), coalition with Congress and the Rajiv Gandhi assassination,
