Idugamapalayam is located about 15 kms north east from Mettupalayam. The word “Palayam” came to existence due to the army camps run by Palayakars. It is located in the Unjavananadu due to the unjanava tree abundance. The temple for Jayamangala Anjeneyar was refurbished in the 13th century by Krishnadeva Rayar under then guidance of Viyasa Rayar (a holy devotee of Lord Hanuman) and supervised by Veerabadrar living from a fort (Danayakankottai) in the region. The sculpture of Lord Hanuman was made out of a single piece of rock (monolithic). This sculpture stands on a 8 feet rock with the lord in the size of 6ft in height and 5ft in width. On the right side of Lord Anjaneyar lies statues of Lord Vinayaka and Nandhi both were also carved out of a "Suyambu". To the pivot side of Lord Vinayaga, carvings of Kamadhenu shedding milk to Lingam can be found. The statue is unique in its appearance that there is a bell on the tail of the Lord to signify that he is always willing to fulfil the wishes of the devotees.
This temple was also ransacked by the Muslim rulers prior to Krishnadeva Rayar and was one of the many temples that Krishnadeva Rayar undertook for renovation. The specialty about this temple is that it is believed the Lord Rama requested hanuman to fetch a linga to worship and due to the delay, Rama himself carved out a linga to worship, which later on hanuman's arrival, hanuman tried to uproot and plant the linga he had brought, as he failed, he planted the second linga next to the one Rama had carved out. It is also believed that Rama's sons Lava and Kusha were born and bred here and it further evidenced by the statues of Valmiki, Goddess Sita, Lava and Kusha at Kaanappan temple nearby. It is also believed that the temple was in existence from 4404 kaliyuga. This is believed to be encrypted on stone.

Testimonials
Folks, It's a great work. To get more people's involvement the website has to come forward with the volunteers profile and their interest and also the intention of this website more precisely. may be an "ABOUT US" page will help more . The volunteers interest in spreading any particular message ( Non-Political ) and creating a Brand name for Mettupalayam among the outsiders. Typically most tourists stop in Mettupalayam for a short stay or stop have food or over night stay etc., which definitely helps local business and people. Lot of other things can be done but always doing with volunteers and getting outside support occasionally will help. Brand Mettupalayam in a good spirit and helping tourists as a non-profit basis will help tourists extend thier stay and spend more money in MTP helping locally all. Can the Moderator expalin about themsleves and create a BRAND METUPALAYAM discussion forum and I'm sure with more open mails from moderators more people will jump in.. Good Luck and Thanks a lot for the great work you guys are doing for Mettupayam.
