80 Year old "Anaya Vilaku" at Mettupalayam Railway station is a living monument to the town testimony. It was used as a Platform light in the olden days where there was no power supply. A fill of kerosene will keep lit for a week and is used from 6.30 pm every evening to the early hours (usually until the Nilgiri express arrives or sunrise, whichever is earlier). This is also called as "Kerosene Lit Platform Light".
