Houses for Sri Lankan Refugees

Mettupalayam, Feb 06, 2010 : The Tamil Nadu Government is aiming to complete the houses at Vedar Colony for Sri Lankan Refugees by the 28th Feb 2010. The Tamil Nadu government has alloted a total of Rs.37.33 crores for the settlement of the Sri Lankan Refugees who took refuge in India in 1990. The refugees mainly belong to Jaffna, Vavunia, Mannar, Triconamallee, Killinochi, and Mullaitheevu. A total of about 250 families reside here at Vedar colony just after Palapatti near Mettupalayam. They have now been allocated 14 basic type facilities in their housing across the 115 settlements in Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore District was alloted a sum of Rs.1.02 crores and the amount is currently being utilised to build houses and other amenties for the refugees. Mr.Jayakumar, Deputy Director of the Sri Lankan Refugee Settlement Department said that they were aiming to complete the first phase of the works at Vedar Colony facilities in time. He also thanked the PWD department who are pivotal in the construction work on site at Vedar Colony.
